Ingredients
For the dough:
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 7 g dry yeast
- 80 g sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 250 ml warm milk
- 80 g softened butter
- 1 egg
For brushing:
- 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk
Instructions
1. Prepare the dough
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it rest 10 minutes to activate.
- Add the egg, flour, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
- Add the softened butter and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
2. Shape the bread (as in your picture)
- Roll the dough into a rectangle.
- Cut narrow strips without separating them (this gives the layered look).
- Gently roll the whole rectangle into a log.
- Place in a loaf pan lined with baking paper.
- Let rise again for 40 minutes.
3. Bake
- Brush with egg yolk + milk.
- Bake at 180°C (356°F) for 25–30 minutes until golden.
4. Cool and serve
Let it cool completely before slicing.
