INTRODUCTION:

Steamed pork buns, also known as baozi, are a popular Chinese dish made with soft, fluffy dough filled with a savory and flavorful pork filling. INGREDIENTS:

For the dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the filling:

  • 250g ground pork
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 2 green onions (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon ginger (minced)
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Prepare the dough:
    • In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil. Mix until the dough comes together.
    • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
    • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

    • In a bowl, mix the ground pork with soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and white pepper.
